"Zara" wins Catalyst Grant from Durham Arts Council

DURHAM, N.C. (August 23, 2018) - The Durham Arts Council (DAC) announced recipients of the 2018-19 Season Grants and Durham Arts Catalyst Grants. Six local organizations were recognized for projects ranging from programming to scholarships and exhibits. The Monti and it’s sponsored project, “Zara,” was among those recognized. Other winning organizations include Audio Under the Stars, Blackspace, Bulldog Ensemble Theatre, Duke String School, and Pleiades Arts.

The new Catalyst grant program was launched in 2018 to provide opportunities for Durham arts organizations to gain experience with the grant application process and is open only to organizations not yet funded by the Durham Arts Council Season Grant Program.  This program has been developed as part of over 100 initiatives in the DAC strategic plan to provide additional support for the Durham arts sector through grants, technical assistance and program opportunities.

Since 1984, Durham Arts Council has made cash grants/awards totaling more than $4,455,790 and awards of facility use totaling more than $5,734,691 through 834 grants to arts organizations and 626 grants to individual artists. This grant support helps to build and sustain a vibrant arts and cultural community.

The grant programs are made possible by contributions to the Durham Arts Council’s Annual Arts Fund, a grant from the Duke Energy Foundation and by the Grassroots Arts Program of the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. Grants for use of space in the Durham Arts Council building are made possible by a management contract between theDAC and the City Durham.
